Ferro aluminum is a ferro alloy, consisting of iron and aluminum. The metal usually consists of 30% to 40% aluminum and applications of ferro aluminum include the deoxidation of steel, hard facing applications, reducing agent, thermite reactions. The alloy is also known for the ability to manufacture low melting point alloys. The presence of iron in aluminum helps in the decrease of casting defects, improves tensile, yield, hardness, and maintains strength at high temperatures.

Advantages of Iron in Aluminum Alloys

Pure aluminum is often too ductile to be used for structural applications. It does not have the desired strength necessary. It also provides strength when exposed to higher temperatures. When aluminum undergoes heat treatments to form it into shapes, the iron helps the aluminum to maintain its stability.
